You might say she is on a mission from God. And the people on earth are apparently listening.

After quitting her job in real estate five years ago, Naiika Sings bought a microphone and amplifier and took to performing on subway platforms and trains along the A, D and E lines. Her unplanned performances were based, she says, on the energy subway commuters were giving her that day.

Two years ago, a video of her posted by a rider on social media went viral as millions watched a packed train of commuters lose their inhibitions in a spontaneous sing-along. In other videos people danced in the aisles. When Naiika sings, said one post, magic happens.

“Humans need humans,” says Naiika. “We are, all of us, hungry for human connection.”

The unanticipated fame shocked Naiika. Suddenly she was being featured on radio stations Hot 97, Power 105.1, WBLS; on news stations WPIX, WNBC, WCBS, and WABC; in the Daily News and Forbes, and even abroad on AOL UK and Sweden’s Göteborgs Posten. And 50 cent and others were contacting her about projects.

“There are so many people hurting in the city, walking around, stoic… you can see the pain on their faces,” Naiika explains. “We can heal each other. I can heal myself through the music. And hopefully I can bring joy to someone else with that sense of connection.”

In her debut album 2gether the Haitian-American singer-songwriter demonstrates to the world why her sultry mix of soul and style has already attracted the attention of millions, including 50 Cent, Ledisi, and many more.

For Naiika, a native New Yorker born in Crown Heights, the connection is the key. The song “2gether”, the first single from her album of the same name, delivers this message with a soothing vocal and a mesmerizing beat.

Not surprisingly a gospel-like chorus joins the refrain singing, “We’re stronger together”.

“We’re facing a time where we can choose division or affirm life on life’s terms,” says Naiika. “But first we need to be comfortable with who we are. And sometimes that means letting others in to help.”

We are stronger together. It’s a powerful message. And if past is prologue, the whole world will soon be singing Naiika’s song.

AFTER A SUBWAY RIDER POSTED A VIDEO OF NAIIKA SINGING, IT WENT VIRAL WITH MORE THAN 10 MILLION VIEWS.
